Just thought I would mention that running water can freeze, if
it gets cold enough (I've seen it happen). What usually keeps it from
freezing is that it is coming from a warmer location (underground or the inside
of a home, for example) and flows out of the faucet before it has a chance to
cool enough to freeze. But in extremely cold weather it can still
freeze. Or, if the weather is not extreme, but the flow rate is
too small (i.e., dripping very slowly), it may freeze.

all vendors will have to start putting the % of Trans Fat (Hydrogenated Oil) on
the food packaging. The FDA says that there is no safe level of Trans Fat
for human consumption. Right now Fruit O Lay is the only company that has
made an effort to let you know how much is in their products. If you
would like to know before 2006, you can tell by looking at the
ingredients. If Hydrogenated Oil is one of the first three ingredients
listed you might consider picking something else.

Quaker Oats for fast pain relief....
It was not just for breakfast in the olden days! If you are having
trouble with arthritis pain, try this old pioneer recipe.
Mix 2 cups of Quaker Oats and 1 cup of water in a bowl and warm in the
microwave for 1 minute, cool slightly, and apply the mixture to your hands for
soothing relief from arthritis pain.
A couple of notes here: In the olden days they did not have microwaves....
OK... I guess you knew that, and second, you might want to try this when the
kids are not home. Otherwise if they see you doing this they may think
you have started your second childhood and are playing in you cereal again.

But if you really ever have had a shell fragment in your raw egg when you broke it into the pan to fry you know how hard it is to catch it with your finger or a spoon. It is like a greased pig, right?... Well if you just take the broken 1/2 of the egg shell you just dumped the egg out of and use it as a spoon, the shell fragment will not run away from that shell and you can scoop it right out of the raw egg in noting flat.
Just thought you would like to know that if you didn't already.

Got warts? Try duct tape.
05:53 PM PST on Thursday, March 11, 2004
Dr. William Norcross is one doctor who uses duct tape to remove a wart.
"You'll discover why I'm in family medicine and not in surgery very quickly here," he said.
Researchers found an 85 percent cure rate when a wart was covered with tape for a week to 2 months.
Caused by a virus, warts are harmless but tough to get rid of because what you see in a wart isn't really the entire infection. Liquid nitrogen can burn them off, but it's painful and can leave scars.
“The treatments can be painful, warts are harmless and you don't want to traumatize a child unnecessarily,” said Norcross.
Sixty children with warts tested a theory that duct tape could fix just about anything - even warts. Researchers found an 85 percent cure rate when a wart was covered with tape for a week to two months compared to only 60 percent of those that came back repeatedly over two months to have the wart sprayed with liquid nitrogen.
One word of caution before you rush out to the hardware store. If there's any question it's skin cancer, melanoma, pigmentation or anything but a classic wart, get a doctor or nurse practitioner to look at it.
But if it's a cure for “frog kisses,” experts say skip the pharmacy and head for the hardware store.
The original study was done at Madigan Army Medical Center in Tacoma, Wash.

Ok so here is just my opinion and maybe it is not a consumer tip so much as something to think about.
We are constantly hearing about cancer. In the USA WEEKEND march 5-7 2004 there was an article in the EatSmart section by Jean Carper about eating broccoli because it helps fight cancer. I see those kinds of articles all the time.
For years I have read articles on the link between red meat and cancer. If you go to www.google.com and type in the three key words "red meat cancer" you will see pages and pages of scientific studies linking the eating of red meat to cancer.
Well a couple of years ago everyone was in a rage about the Cambridge II diet. Remember that one? It was eating mostly meat and no carbs. Almost every woman at work was on it. My boss was on it. Then doctors came out with a statement saying people on the Cambridge II diet were damaging their kidneys. The Cambridge Diet company (which is actually a liquid drink diet) immediately put a disclaimer on their web page saying the Cambridge II diet was not their diet at all and was a counterfeit of their name. So everyone stopped the high meat low carb thing. That was in the late 90's.
My point... Well now guess what.... find me a person in America who could not tell you what the Adkins Diet is. Every ad on TV seems to be Low Carb Pizza, Low Carb Beer, Low Carb Pasta (yes I saw that on TV) ... Low carb.... what ever. I even saw an advertisement on TV for Segrums Whiskey that is now low carb. Give me a break....
Now in some larger grocery stores they have whole sections of shelves dedicated to low carb stuff and the smaller stores at least have signs on shelves showing you what is "LOW CARB". Most packages are now telling you how many sugar carbs it has in it (what ever that is....) I have to laugh.
But I quickly quit laughing when I think about the pages and pages of studies on Google about the link between red meat and cancer. So far I have not heard anything from Doctors about the Adkins high meat low carb diet damaging kidneys, though I can not see any difference between the Cambridge II diet and the Adkins Diet. But what about cancer? People are HOGGING down red meat (that was a pun by the way)... I wonder if the Adkins diet rage was a promotion by the beef industry to overcome the mad cow disease scare? I don't know that. Just wondering.
Weight Watchers, Jenny Craig and some of the other companies like that have proven with 10's of 1000's of customers that a balanced low fat diet eaten in moderation will cause most people to lose weight (if they are free from physical illness that would prevent it).
So with the Adkins diet rage...... how can we not wonder what the cancer rate in America will be in 10 or 20 years with so many people eating red meat like it was going out of style to lose weight? I guess we will just have to wait and see. But don't say that I at least did not sound a warning. My advice would be to listen to the old government food pyramid chart and just eat all that you eat in moderation.
Eating too much red meat may help you lose weight and make you a very skinny cancer patient. Just my opinion.

I can't believe that I forgot to put this in last month after saving it in my files for 4 years. So here it is 1 month to the day late....
WHY WE HAVE LEAP YEARS:
I don't think I will save this in my files for the year 2100 when we skip leap year again in the centennial year (ie: no Feb 29 in that year even though it is the 4th year). You will just have to remember why we are doing it on you own, OK? (or at least leave a journal entry for your grand kids so they will know why)

AN ATTORNEY'S ADVICE
A corporate attorney sent the following out to the employees in his company.
1. The next time you order checks have only your initials (instead of first name) and last name put on them. If someone takes your checkbook, they will not know if you sign your checks with just your initials or your first name, but your bank will know how you sign your checks.
2. When you are writing checks to pay on your credit card accounts, DO NOT put the complete account number on the "For" line. Instead, just put the last four numbers. The credit card company knows the rest of the number, and anyone who might be handling your check as it passes through all the check processing channels won't have access to it.
3. Put your work phone # on your checks instead of your home phone. If you have a PO Box use that instead of your home address. If you do not have a PO Box, use your work address. Never have your SS# printed on your checks. You can add it if it is necessary. But if you have it printed, anyone can get it.
4. . Place the contents of your wallet on a photocopy machine. Do both sides of each license, credit card, etc You will know what you had in your wallet and all of the account numbers and phone numbers to c! all and cancel. Keep the photocopy in a safe place. I also carry a photocopy of my passport when I travel either here or abroad. We've all heard horror stories about fraud that's committed on us in stealing a name, address, Social Security number, credit cards.Unfortunately, I, an attorney, have firsthand knowledge because my wallet was stolen last month. Within a week, the thieve(s) ordered an expensive monthly cell phone package, applied for a VISA credit card, had a credit line approved to buy a Gateway computer, received a PIN number from DMV to change my driving record information on-line, and more.
But here's some critical information to limit the damage in case this happens to you or someone you know:
a. We have been told we should cancel our credit cards immediately. But the key is having the toll free numbers and your card numbers handy so you know whom to call. Keep those where you can find them.
b. File a police report immediately in the jurisdiction where your credit cards, etc. were stolen. This proves to credit providers you were diligent, and this is a first step toward an investigation (if there ever is one).
But here's what is perhaps most important of all : (I never even thought to do this.)
c. Call the 3 national credit reporting organizations immediately to place a fraud alert on your name and Social Security number. I had never heard of doing that until advised by a bank that called to tell me an application for credit was made over the Internet in my name. The alert means any company that checks your credit knows your information was stolen, and they have to contact you by phone to authorize new credit. By the time I was advised to do this, almost two weeks after the theft, all the damage had been done. There are records of all the credit checks initiated by the thieves' purchases, none of which I knew about before p! lacing the alert. Since then, no additional damage has been done, and the thieves threw my wallet away. This weekend (someone turned it in). It seems to have stopped them dead in their tracks.
Now, here are the numbers you always need to contact about your wallet, etc. has been stolen:
1. Equifax: 1-800-525-6285
2. Experian (formerly TRW): 1-888-397-3742
3. Trans Union: 1-800-680-7289
4. Social Security Administration (fraud line): 1-800-269-0271

By popular DEMAND I am reprinting this one so you know which days of the week are which colors.
When you go to buy bread in the grocery store, have you ever wondered which is the freshest, so you "squeeze" for freshness or softness? Did you know that bread is delivered fresh to the stores five days a week? Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Each day has a different color twist tie. They are:
Monday Blue --
(If you cant see the colors in your email here they are in black and white: Monday Blue -- Tuesday Green --Thursday Red -- Friday White -- Saturday Yellow )
So if today was Thursday, you would! want red twist tie - not white which is Fridays (almost a week old)! The colors go alphabetically by color Blue-Green - Red - White - Yellow, Monday through Saturday.
Very easy to remember. But if you are still having trouble remembering them just think of this line: Billy Got Really Wet Yesterday...
(now you can remember them when you are in the store?)

When ever you spray any kind of chemical on your lawn or garden to kill pests, if you will put dish soap in the mixture it will make it much more effective. The dish soap breaks down the protective shell on insects skin and lets the pesticide penetrate more effectively into their body. Thus less does more making it safer.

Want to surprise your spouse with a secret love message? Here is how you can do it. Put some soap on your finger and write the message on the mirror . When the wet soapy message dries you can not see it any more. (don't use too much soap or it will still show when it is dry. You can even write it with a bar of soap if you are careful not to press too hard and leave so much soap it shows after it is dry.... )
Now....... when your spouse takes a shower and the mirror fogs up, the water particles in the air will not stick to the soap on the mirror and the message will look like you just wrote it in the fogged up mirror with your finger..... (It is never too late to fall in love again you know)!
Ok Ok the real consumer tip is that if you wipe the mirror with soapy water and just let it dry and don't wipe the soap off then when you take a shower the mirror wont fog up.... But I like the love message idea better !!!!

I have been having so much trouble with "HACKERS" loading things on my computer with out me knowing it, I finally broke down and got a farewell. I downloaded SYGATE's Personal Firewall 5.5. It is free to home users. It really works great. It asks me if I want to allow something to come into my computer every time before it allows it. It also asks me if I want to allow something to be sent from my computer every time something is about to be sent as well. But the nice thing is that it allows me to check the check box to remember something like my EUDURO Email program sending out an email or my Norton Anti-virus live update. So once I have told it that those are OK, it remembers that outgoing or incoming action and does not ask me again. I can recommend it to you highly. It works very well.

If you have a web page and put your email address on it, you will get killed with junk mail because COMPUTER ROBOTS scan every web page and look for any text in the format xxxx@xxxxx.com then sell those email addresses to junk email dealers.
SOLUTION: Take a picture of your email address then put the picture of your email address on your web page. That way, the COMPUTER ROBOT cant see it. For example,
Email address as text:
Email address as a picture:
If you highlight the first one, you will see you can copy and paste the first one into some other text message (or email address list), but you can only see the second one. When you click on the second one, you will see it is only a picture. A computer can not see the text in a picture but of course people can.

THREE WAYS TO "CAN" SPAM
1. Maintain at least two email addresses. One for public use and one for friends and family. Posting an email address on a blog, message board or news groups greatly increases your chances for junk mail. If you public email address gets flooded with junk mail just change it. (This is easy to do with YAHOO or HOTMAIL for example) Don't ever give your family email address out for public use.
2. Make your address unusual. Using an odd combination of letters an numbers. There are spam harvesting programs that create obvious addresses like joe@aol.com and just add them to email junk mailing lists.
3. Sign up for a disposable email address service. They maintain your email addresses for you then forward mail to your permanent personal email account. If your disposable email addresses gets on a junk email list and you start getting flooded with spam junk email, you can just cancel it and get a new one without disrupting your permanent address. Two reputable ones are Mailshell.com and Spamex.com. You can also do this with YAHOO.com and HOTMAIL.com email services.

A home remedy for warts tested in Washington state is now gaining popularity all over the country. It's cheap - less than 10 cents a treatment - and painless too. But who would have thought duct tape would work on warts?
A year is about 365 1/4 days long (actually 365.242199 days). So every forth year we have to add a day. Leap years are those years divisible by 4. However a year of 365 1/4 days is actually 11 minutes and 14 seconds too long, and that amounts to three days every 400 years. So 3 of every 4 years ending in 00 are not leap years. That is to say that centesimal* years, are NOT common leap years if they are NOT divisible by 400. 1700, 1800, 1900 were not leap years but 2000 was (ie: 2000 /400 = 5). This time was not one of the times to skip the leap year in the centennial year, so that is why no one noticed this phenomenon of skipping of the centennial leap year this time around. The year 2000 was a normal leap year.
With all the identity theft that is so prevalent we should all take this advice! Make a copy for your files in case you need to refer to it someday.
