A panhandler stopped me every morning as I came out of a little coffee
shop. Every day I gave him a dime. It got to be so routine that he
wouldn't even bother to ask me or to thank me. I just slipped him a
dime.
Then for fourteen days I was away on a vacation. The first day back I
came out of the coffee shop and the panhandler said: "You owe me a
dollars forty."
